Looking at the checkins, I realized I should have been clearer.

Many cnages, especially in netutils, looked like no change if a tab
renders as 8 spaces in your mailer.

We do have a standard format, using tabs to indent code.

This works fine, because it allows those who care to set their text
editor to display tabs however they wish.

The catch is that continuation lines only tab out to the current code
indent level, then spcae out to line up wit the text above. AFAIK, this
must be done manually ;-( Even emacs does not seem to have this
indentation mode.

So we discourage continued lines. But, we also recognize that the nature
or our deployment is you might need to look at the code in a nasty
little server room someplace, so we also try to keep lines under 80
characters in case you are the poor sucker trying to debug nagios on the
horrible old CRT
