I fail to see what this is for. Messages in a mail queue shouldn't stay
forever in it. Most mailers drop messages after 2-6 days, and it is
expected to have messages waiting in the queue until the expiration
(most common causes are spam and mistyped emails).

However the queue size is a fairly good indication of the failure rate,
as the size is roughly proportional to the number of mails that never
get sent versus the time they can stay in the queue.
