From nagios at smetj.net Tue Mar 1 22:27:53 2011 From: nagios at smetj.net (Jelle Smet) Date: Tue, 01 Mar 2011 22:27:53 +0100 Subject: [Nagiosplug-devel] =?utf-8?q?check=5Ficmp_=26_TTL_expired_in_tran?= =?utf-8?q?sit_behaviour?= Message-ID: <949c9a4e9ee89b1a49a7efd1902b9394@mail.smetj.net> Hi list, I'm using check_icmp (http://nagiosplugins.org/man/check_icmp) as host command to determine a host is up and running or not. I think it would be handy to add a feature which would allow you to return an unreachable state when "TTL expires in transit" while pinging that host. The motivation for such an option is the following: In Nagios, all parent child relationships are defined correctly. A router can be pinged, but has a faulty route configured which makes the TTL of all traffic going through it drop to 0 (routing loop) resulting into a "TTL expired in transit" for all hosts behind it. As a result, despite correct parent child relationships, Nagios will send out a host down notification for all those hosts. What are your thoughts? Cheers, -- Jelle Smet http://www.smetj.net From nagios at smetj.net Thu Mar 10 13:52:46 2011 From: nagios at smetj.net (Jelle Smet) Date: Thu, 10 Mar 2011 12:52:46 +0000 (UTC) Subject: [Nagiosplug-devel] =?utf-8?q?check=5Ficmp_=26_TTL_expired_in_tran?= =?utf-8?q?sit_behaviour?= References: <949c9a4e9ee89b1a49a7efd1902b9394@mail.smetj.net> Message-ID: > I think it would be handy to add a feature which would allow you to > return an unreachable state when "TTL expires in transit" while pinging > that host. I found out that this is out of control of the plugin itself. The plugin only does up/down states. Building all plugins can be a pain in the a**, there are several I don't really need so I just ignore them, but I need check_snmp. What I currently get when building the RPM from source tarball is: $ rpmbuild -tb nagios-plugins-1.4.15.tar.gz . . configure: WARNING: Get snmpget from http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net to make check_hpjd and check_snmp plugins . . . Until now I have installed: $ rpm -qa | grep -i snmp perl-Net-SNMP-5.2.0-1.2.el6.rf.noarch net-snmp-5.5-27.el6_0.1.x86_64 net-snmp-devel-5.5-27.el6_0.1.x86_64 net-snmp-libs-5.5-27.el6_0.1.x86_64 Still not building. Any ideas? Of course one might suggest just to use the pre-built package from rpmforge but somehow I don't like that too much... At least it breaks with our directory structure which of course comes from the 32-bit aera. Thanks, Dennis -- .............................................................. This allows files that don't exist to be monitored for without causing an error. The use case is: * one process periodically pushes files to an "input" queue for a second process * the second process, when running cleanly will "consume" (process and remove) these files So the conditions to meet are: 1. If the file doesn't exist, that's fine (OK) 2. If the file exists, but is less than X seconds, that's fine (OK) 3. If the file exists, but greater than X seconds, no good (CRITICAL) v1.4.5 doesn't permit this behavior, as a non-existent file is considered CRITICAL. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=397599&aid=3240541&group_id=29880 From noreply at sourceforge.net Fri Mar 25 16:19:07 2011 From: noreply at sourceforge.net (SourceForge.net) Date: Fri, 25 Mar 2011 15:19:07 +0000 Subject: [Nagiosplug-devel] [ nagiosplug-Patches-3244097 ] check_ssh: add perfdata Message-ID: Patches item #3244097, was opened at 2011-03-25 16:19 Message generated for change (Tracker Item Submitted) made by beckm You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=397599&aid=3244097&group_id=29880 Please note that this message will contain a full copy of the comment thread, including the initial issue submission, for this request, not just the latest update. I updated nrpe-2.12/include/common.h: #define MAX_INPUT_BUFFER 20480 #define MAX_PACKETBUFFER_LENGTH 20480 I can then use check_nrpe to talk to our nslclient (with string_length=20480) and everything appears to work fine. However, when talking to nrpe, even localhost, I still get some CRC failure messages. For the heck of it I disabled that fatal return code, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any clue why crc would sometimes fail and sometimes not ? I looked at the code but didn't see anything obvious. There was a nice patch from op5 for nrpe: http://labs.opsview.com/2008/08/enhancing-nrpe-for-large-output/ But there's no patch for nsclient to do this and since I have multi-platforms to support that doesn't work so well for me. Any other clues how to get this to work stable with larger buffer sizes? Dan -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
