This is from the old / soon to be disabled again Nagios Plugins bug tracker that used to be at Nagios itself.
I've just copied this bug over. I'm not the original reporter and have no idea about the thoughts about this bug.

Hi,

Amount of cores in new processor series tends to get larger and larger. The Linux kernel runs one specific kernel thread on each physical or logical core, and for several services.

These kernel threads are seen as processes by the check_procs plugin, and thus taken in count while comparing to the thresholds.

It would be a great functionality to be able to tell check_procs to not select them. This would allow the checks to be less dependent on the hardware specifications. The only way, for now, to avoid any alarm is to increase the thresholds, which implies to create a specific check, or checking group, for each hardware model.
