Hello,

My name is Pete, I am running a Nagios server on my Suse 8.2 box with a
client of the same level. Nagios came pre-installed on the server machine,
so all I did was the configuration. The client, however I compiled both the
nrpe and the plugins. Locally, everything works fine, on both systems.
Remotely, however, using check_nrpe it does not. I have nrpe running under
inet on my client. It seems to be running correctly, as checking with
"netstat -a | grep -i listen" shows. When I run the "check_nrpe -H
$HOSTADDRESS$ -c check_disk -w 20 -c 10 /" from my nagios server, I get the
following message:

15:01:57 deathstar nrpe[15319]: connect from 10.129.1.59 (10.129.1.59)

15:01:57 deathstar nrpe[15319]: INFO: SSL/TLS initialized. All network
traffic will be encrypted.

15:01:57 deathstar nrpe[15319]: Error: Could not complete SSL handshake. 1

Now, I have check both machines, and they both have OpenSSL 0.9.6 on them,
they seem to have the rest of the required libraries as well. Can anyone
assist me with resolving this issue, it is really annoying and I
contemplating committing seppuku! ;P

Thanks much,

Pete

Shweta,

Which OS are you running this on? It looks like the version of install on
your server is not suitable. You can try:

- changing the makefile so it uses install-sh instead of install
- downloading the latest r1_3_0 snapshot of nagiosplug at
http://nagiosplug.sourceforge.net/snapshot/, which may have fixed this

Yes! I have experienced socket timeouts.

You should use the "-to" options to the check_nrpe. For some tests I have
increased this to 60 seconds or more.

>From the help:

Usage: /usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H <host_address> [-p port]
[-c command] [-to to_sec]

Options:
<host_address> = The IP address of the host running the NRPE daemon
[port] = The port on which the daemon is running - default is
5666
[command] = The name of the command that the remote daemon should
run
[to_sec] = Number of seconds before connection attempt times out.
                  Default timeout is 10 seconds

Figure out where Redhat 8.0 stores the openssl header files (crypto.h, ds=
a.h,=20
etc) and use that path as the argument to "configure --with-openssl=3D". =
I'm=20
using SuSE Linux, and it stores the ssl header files in=20
"/usr/include/openssl", so I ran:

make clean
rm config.cache
=2E/configure --with-openssl=3D/usr/include/openssl=20
make
plugins/check_ssh -S

=2E.. and that worked.

Subject: [Nagiosplug-help] Checking Perl Script w/ check_procs on FreeBSD

Hello

I am having difficulty monitoring a Perl script on a FreeBSD 4.8-STABLE
system using check_procs. The script is started at system boot time and
runs in the background handling our POP-Before-SMTP functionality.

In "ps ax" it shows up as te following.

87568 p0- S 0:25.50 /usr/bin/perl /usr/local/sbin/poprelayd -d

But when check_procs runs "ps waxco 'state uid ppid command command'", it
shows up as this.

S 0 1 perl perl

I would really like to monitor the specific process of Perl running the
poprelayd script, especially since I have more than one background process
of Perl running.

How have others worked around this problem?

Thank you in advance.
