[Nagiosplug-help] How to check the Quality/Bandwith of a connection

I have some 2Mbit and some 512Kbit connections.
How to check the quality of these connections

I use the check_ping to see if the line is up and running
But i would like som sort of check which generate a lot of traffic on the
connection to see the real connection speed

This check should run 15 minutes every night where there isn't any other
traffic on the connections
If only i could set the packet size on the check_ping that would do the job
But the ping -s 16384 parameter isn't enabled in the check_ping command

Any other suggestion to do the job ?
