[Nagiosplug-help] Trouble installing plugins - not templated perhaps?

Hi,

Recently installed the following RPMs to test out Nagios:
nagios-1.1-3.dag.rh73.i386.rpm
nagios-plugins-1.3.1-2.dag.rh73.i386.rpm

I don't think the plugins are working cause I see this in the logs:

[1062474392] Warning: Return code of 127 for check of service 'HTTP' on
host 'web1' was out of bounds. Make sure the plugin you're trying to run
actually exists.

Ok, so I copied the /usr/share/doc/nagios-plugins-1.3.1/command.cfg to
/etc/nagios and changed /etc/nagios/nagios.cfg so that the line
"cfg_file=/etc/nagios/checkcommands.cfg" reads
"cfg_file=/etc/nagios/command.cfg"

but now when I verify nagios I get

Error: Unexpected token or statement in file '/etc/nagios/command.cfg' on
line 33.

which is the following line:
command[notify-by-email]=/bin/printf "$OUTPUT$" | /bin/mail -s
'$SERVICESTATE$ alert for $HOSTALIAS$/$SERVICEDESC$' $CONTACTEMAIL$

To my untrained eye it looks like the config file is the old style command
syntax whereas the Nagios program is looking for the new template syntax.

Is this correct and how do I fix it?
