[Nagiosplug-help] check_ssh causes target host to reboot?

Hi there,

I have some strange issues with the check_ssh plugin:

Target host to be monitored is an appliance, running Linux 2.2 and
openssh 3.6.1p1 / 3.7.1p1.

The monitoring host is a FreeBSD 4.9-stable, nagios 1.2 and
nagios-plugins 1.3.1, all compiled from a recent ports collection.

Strange problem is, that the appliances (monitored about 11 of them)
will reboot without obvious cause every 1-2 days, with a check interval
of about 5 minutes.

In am attempt to verify this, I set up a script which triggers check_ssh
directly from the monitoring host to a specific target appliance, and
used an infinite loop, so that about 10 checks were made per second,
that appliance rebootet within 2 1/2 hours, and this value could be
reproduced reliably.

As I de-configured the check_ssh in nagios setup for all the other
boxes, I never had a reboot again, so I strongly assume that there are
coincidences happening, since those appliances easily reach 100 days
uptime.

Kind regards
Olaf Hoyer
