[Nagiosplug-help] NRPE works from command line but not nagios server

I have nrpe installed and to the best of my knowledge working.
I'm using check_disk plugin for this:
/check_disk -w 20 -c 10 -p /dev/hda3

I run the commands from the remote machine and it gives back:
DISK OK [14167924 kB (61%) free on /dev/hda3]

I run the check_nrpe from the nagios server (both as nagios user and
root)
/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_nrpe -H 10.139.4.47 -c check_disk_var

And I get this:
DISK OK [22428328 kB (93%) free on /dev/hda3]

My checkcommand file has this configured:
command_line $USER1$/check_nrpe $HOSTADDRESS$ -c check_disk

The notification I get from nagios says:
Additional Info:

Incorrect command line arguments supplied

The service file has this defined:
check_command check_nrpe!check_disk

Any ideas?
I'm using xinted which seems to work since I can run from the nagios
server and get back something from the remote server.

I'm stumped!
Thanks,
BV
