Here is some more detail, this time with nrpe. I realize its not the same as
the plugins, but they dont play well with SUNW packages.

checking for SSL... configure: error: Cannot find ssl libraries

root @ ironman: which openssl
/usr/sfw/bin/openssl
root @ ironman: pkginfo -l SUNWopenssl-libraries
   PKGINST: SUNWopenssl-libraries
      NAME: OpenSSL Libraries (Usr)
  CATEGORY: system
      ARCH: sparc
   VERSION: 11.10.0,REV=2005.01.21.15.53
   BASEDIR: /
    VENDOR: Sun Microsystems, Inc.
      DESC: OpenSSL Libraries (Usr)
    PSTAMP: on10-patch20051119222253
  INSTDATE: Feb 15 2007 13:31
HOTLINE: Please contact your local service provider
    STATUS: completely installed
     FILES: 19 installed pathnames
                   5 shared pathnames
                   4 directories
                   4 executables
               13966 blocks used (approx)

root @ ironman: echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/opt/csw/lib:/usr/sfw/lib
root @ ironman: crle -v

Configuration file [version 4]: /var/ld/ld.config
  Default Library Path (ELF):
/lib:/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/opt/csw/lib:/usr/sfw/lib
  Trusted Directories (ELF): /lib/secure:/usr/lib/secure (system
default)

I'm pretty confident that I can install openssl from source or perhaps even
from sunfreeware (which installs in /usr/local by default) and it will work
just fine. Just more info for those compiler types out there (of which I'm
obviously not one. ;)
