[Nagiosplug-help] check_by_ssh execution of check_load always returns UNKNOWN

Hello,

I have one AIX 4.3.3 machine which I am checking load values on using
check_by_ssh and check_load. This is not working properly. The output of the
check_load command looks fine, is within the specified OK range and the
result returned to the check_by_ssh plugin, however I always get a problem
alert saying that the status is UNKNOWN, e.g.:

---------------------------------------
***** Nagios 2.12 *****

Notification Type: PROBLEM

Service: System Load
Host: AIX 4.3.3 Host
Address: 10.20.30.40
State: UNKNOWN

Date/Time: Fri Oct 17 13:23:48 EDT 2008

Additional Info:

OK - load average: 0.00, 0.03, 0.13
---------------------------------------

I've received a recovery report from this machine 1 time since I added it to
nagios. The load values reported were no different than they are now. I
received another problem report at the next check interval.

I'm using the nagios-plugins-1.4.13 distribution compiled with gcc 2.95.2 on
AIX 4.3.3. There were no issues during configure or compilation, to my
knowledge. I do not have the flexibility to change the compiler or OS
version.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and/or how to fix it?

I only spent a couple of minutes looking through the archives so I apologize
if this has been covered already.

Thanks,

-Will
