Hi James,

For a plugin that just consists of a bash/perl script, the basic process
is:

- Drop the plugin into your Nagios plugins directory
(/usr/local/nagios/libexec by default), and make sure it can be executed
by whatever user your Nagios instance runs as.

- Add a command to commands.cfg (located in
/usr/local/nagios/etc by default) to call the plugin and pass it any
parameters it needs.

- Add a service definition to services.cfg (same dir as above)
that uses the command to check a service on a host.

- Profit.

If you look at existing service/command definitions that are already in
those files, you should get the idea; "install" is an awfully strong
word for it if you come from a Windows background.

Ta,

IR.

Subject: [Nagiosplug-help] Installation of a Single Plugin

Recently, Nagios was added to my plate to maintain and update/upgrade as
and when needed.

Having limited exposure to Nagios and Linux, I need a little help.

There are several plugins that I would like to install from the
different Nagios web sites.

However, I lack some basic information -

How do I install a single plugin, whether it is a .pl or .sh

When all that is given is the command.... ?

Any help you would give is greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact me.
