Sorry to bring this up again, I know it's been a few months, but I've been swamped.   I still can not get nrpe running on Solaris 8 x86.  Not sure what version I was working with last year, but the current version, 1.8, compiles but still will not run.  Any help on this ladder will be appreciated.  Thanks.
